Recognizing the need for innovation in the regulatory process, Doug Schweitzer, former Cabinet Minister in the Government of Alberta, co-founded Ultimarii with Josh Malate, a successful legaltech entrepreneur. Before co-founding Ultimarii, Doug Schweitzer served as a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Alberta, where he played a pivotal role in leading the development of Alberta's successful Economic Recovery Plan. In this role, he coordinated industry strategies across the government and spearheaded provincial strategies for various sectors, including technology and innovation, aerospace and logistics, manufacturing, film and television, pharmaceuticals and life sciences, and tourism.
One of the key focuses of Doug's work in government was reducing red tape to make Alberta the best possible place to invest. However, he recognized that there were limits to what could be achieved through policy and legislative reforms alone. To truly address the challenges and accelerate the development of major projects, innovation focused on the regulatory process was also needed. This experience led to Ultimarii's AI-enabled platform.
The traditional regulatory process is often time-consuming and resource-intensive, leading to delays and inefficiencies in major project development. Ultimarii's platform is poised to drive efficiency and accountability within the regulatory process by leveraging AI-enabled tools to analyze and scrutinize the regulatory process. Currently, this work is predominantly done manually, which is not only time-consuming but also costly. Ultimarii aims to address these challenges by harnessing the capabilities of large language models to help regulatory teams handle the substantial volume of materials filed through the regulatory process more efficiently. By doing so, Ultimarii seeks to improve the accuracy and accountability of the regulatory process.
Canada has often been criticized for its slow regulatory process, which has led to numerous canceled projects and hindered the timely development of other major projects.
